In my last corporate job as the Director of Diversity and Inclusion for Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, I found myself spending about half my time having coffee one-on-one with people who were finding they were experiencing difficulty getting comfortable with diversity. Dismantling assumptions and building new ways forward that made peace with the past and with fear was tremendously rewarding to see. When I left this job I decided to pursue coaching.
I focus on coaching executives and managers because as a Harvard MBA I'm interested in leadership and managerial efficacy. I am happy to support anyone who is committed to the coaching process and is willing to respond accordingly. Since in the course of my career I know first hand the challenges women face, I am particularly well-suited to working with ambitious women.
I find it important to work with multiple levels to stay current on managerial trends and workplace initiatives. After all, executives manage managers, and managers are managed by executives. Hearing perspectives from both levels brings greater insight and informs my coaching practice.
Absolutely! This is all part of my goal to stay in touch with the many voices in our society. I offer deep discounts to individual contributors, solo entrepreneurs, students, people in transition, and others who want coaching but can't afford it. I believe coaching should be accessible to all. Each of us begins our journey with a unique set of circumstances. If you want coaching but feel you can't afford it, let's talk about it.
Not all coaches have graduated from coaching school, but I chose to do so and am glad I did. I am certified by the International Coaching Federation, and trained by the Academy for Coaching Excellence. To obtain my certification, I went to coaching school for two years, undergoing many hours of mentor coaching, peer coaching, critiquing, and training in how to observe, reflect, probe, and elicit shifts in attention that lead to real breakthrough moments. This was a different type of training that I had not been exposed to before. It was well worth the effort as I would not be the coach I am today without this experience.
